What to See

Enjoy Nature

A short walk east will take you to the beautiful Atlantic Ocean.Take a left out of the driveway, right on Live Oak, left on First Street to enjoy a beautiful sunrise.
A short walk west will take you to Pamlico Sound.  Take a right out of the driveway, straight at Village Lane, left at Indian Drive, right on Bay Drive to enjoy the nightly sunset.

To learn about the wildlife that we are blessed with, take a drive over to Roanoke Island.  You will find the NC Aquarium, now featuring our sea turtle rehabilitation center. Or take a ride up to Corolla to learn about our famous wild horses. For those who love plants, Elizabethan Gardens is a beautiful sight to see.

Hang glide or hike on the east coast's largest sand dune at Jockey's Ridge State Park. Take the kayak down to Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge to explore the habitat of our coastal area. For the lighthouse lovers, go north to visit Currituck Beach Lighthouse and south for Bodie Island and Cape Hatteras lighthouses.

Charter fishing boats leave out of Oregon Inlet or Pirate's Cove Marina just about every day. Our own personal recommendation is Captain Frank Riddick, one of the most friendly and knowledgeable charter boat captains out here.  You'll have a great time with Captain Frank, exploring the ins and outs of our waters!

Relive History
Step on the Elizabethan II at RIFP

Our area is one of the oldest in the country!  Maybe you've heard that before...but this time, it's true! Just south of us, you will find Roanoke Island, upon which the Sir Walter Raleigh tried to found a settlement in 1585.  Head over to Manteo and tour the Fort Raleigh National Historic Site  to learn about England's first home in the new world.
The site is also home to The Lost Colony, the longest running outdoor drama in the US, performing since 1937.

While you're in Manteo, stop into The Island Farm to see what life would have been like for settlers on the Outer Banks in the 1800's.  To learn about the original Natives on Roanoke Island and even our pirate history, you can't miss the Roanoke Island Festival Park.

If you're up for a bit more, grab a bike and take a left on Village Lane, then right on First Street.  You will meet up with the bike path that you can follow all the way to the Wright Brothers' Memorial.  This is the site of the very first air flight.  You can see where the first three flights landed and learn about the history of Orville and Wilbur Wright's adventures down here in the Outer Banks.
